Crimson dragonflies
hovering in the steamy haze
aspire to breathe fire
and set the restless field ablaze.
Shadow wings are fanning
the flames of August heat.
You can't extinguish summer,
it still simmers in retreat.
Most excellent poem and it matches so well with the photo. I can just see him setting the field on fire. I think we are all feeling the summer heat these days.
ReplyDeleteYou have made the August heat beautiful with your lovely words. :-)

ReplyDeleteDear ~T~: How beautiful the pic of the crimson butterfly which reminds me of an Emily Dickinson's fascination with crimson and scarlet! The poem is luscious and beautiful, an excellently worded poem;
ReplyDelete"hovering in the steamy haze
aspire to breathe fire"
Thank-you for this finery!
A lovely read - summer is hot and the dragonfly appears to be on fire - very nice.
ReplyDeleteoh, lovely verse...love dragonflies and the imagery from there is very nice. great magpie!
ReplyDeleteThat dragonfly makes me think of Pele the Fire Goddess in Hawaii. And the words make me think of Pele and her volcanos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem and an amazing photo. Our dragonflies are more of an oil-on-water colour.
